About the Mentor

Ashley Gumbrell is a lecturer and Programme Lead for the Performance Football Coaching Master’s degree at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. Currently in the early stages of PhD research, Ashley’s work focuses on the effectiveness of coaches’ behaviours during competition. With over 20 years of coaching experience across a wide range of environments, Ashley brings a strong blend of academic insight and practical expertise. He is currently Head of Coaching at a grassroots club and works as an FA Coach Developer, supporting the development of coaches across the game. In addition, Ashley contributes as a consultant and researcher for Minute9, further bridging the gap between research and applied coaching practice.
